Profile
Mera Peak stands tall at 6461 meters above the sea level and is among the highest trekking peaks in Nepal. Situated in the Khumbu or Everest Valley, the peak is worth a climb for the stunning views of the mountains of the Himalayas. The peak is dominated by its mighty neighbor, the Everest, and is situated in the edge of the Himalayas, marking the end of the roof of the world. From the top of Mera peak one can view many of the peaks - Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, an unforgettable view.
The Mera Peak climbing begins with a short flight to Lukla that lands on a mountain airstrip. The flight itself provides a beautiful view of the Himalayas and the snow clouds on top of the mountains. After landing the airbase, the journey begins with a continuous trek through the Khumbu valley that takes you through the high rugged terrains of the lower Himalayas leading you to the Mera area. The walk continues through the forest of the Hinku Valley which is filled with incredible views of the mountainous flora and fauna.
The climb is not very demanding, considering the low altitude and is not very difficult technically as well. The ascent rarely exceeds the elevation of 40 degrees and due to the relative ease of the climb one only needs to be physically fit for the adventure ahead. The Mera peak climb is the perfect choice for those who want to try out mountain climbing but do not have a clue where to start.
