Nepal is the home to over thirty species of large wild animals, animals like elephants and tigers, and approximately 180 species of mammals. Some of the many species of wild animals found in Nepal are rhinoceros, tiger, crocodile, snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, wild and ferocious gaur bovines, four honed antelope, striped hyena, sambar, chital, hog deer, barking deer, sloth bear, palm civet, langur and rhesus macaque monkeys, pangolin, Gangetic dolphin, monitor lizard, python, cobra, green pit viper, tortoises, and so on. These animals roam the jungles of Nepal and provide a spectacular glimpse of nature.
 
Also, there are over 800 species of birds in Nepal which represents over eight percent of the world’s bird population, and the ecological diversity is truly commendable. Nepal boasts of having the same number of bird species as of the North America. Peafowl, red jungle fowl, various egrets, herons, kingfishers, flycatchers, and woodpeckers are only some of them.

Chitwan National Park
The Chitwan national park is located in south central Nepal, covering 932 sq.km. in the subtropical lowlands of the inner Terai. The park is very rich in bio-diversity. Chitwan national park is the home to more than 55 species of mammals, 600 species of birds and 55 species of reptiles and amphibian. Chitwan National Park is very famous for the One-horned Rhinoceros and Royal Bengal Tiger which lives in the dense forest of the park. Besides rhino and tiger it includes many other animals like; deer, wild dog, monkey, grey langur, wild boar, wild cats and many others. Similarly reptiles include many kinds of snakes, Python, Gangetic crocodile, Marsh crocodiles etc. Likewi9se the birds include the Woodpeckers, Peacocks, Hornbills, Peahens, Brahminy Ducks, Indian Pitta and Parakeets, Waterfowl, Floricans and many more. . Similarly the equally important things in Chitwan are the Tharu people and their culture. The Tharu were well known for their resistance to Malaria. A stroll through the Tharu Village will provide an opportunity to see their traditional farming and relics. Tradition Tharu Stick dance gives an insight into their culture.
 
The activities include Jungle Safari on elephants back riding, Jungle walk, Canoe ride, Jeep drive, and observation of Tharu Village. There are many hotels and resorts for accommodation. One can reach there by 25 minutes by air or 146 km (6\7hrs.) drive by road from Kathmandu.
 
Bardia National Park
Bardia National Park is the largest park in the lowland Terai covering an area of 968 sq.km is located in western part of Nepal. The park offers a variety of experiences. The park is the home to endangered animals such as the One-horned Rhinoceros and Royal Bengal Tiger, Wild Elephant, Swamp Deer and Black Buck, Gharial Crocodile, Marsh Mugger and Gangetic Dolphin. Similarly 30 different mammals, 400 species of birds and several species of reptiles can be found in this park. The park is very rich in bio-diversity. The major vegetation and forest type are wooded grassland and the riverine forest.
 
There is a daily flight and buses from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. And from Nepalgunj bus service is available to the park during the dry season.
