Gokyo Lake Trek is the second most popular trekking route in the Everest region. This Gokyo Lake trekking takes you to the beautiful Gokyo Valley towards the north of Namche Bazaar. Gokyo Valley trekking package offers you panoramic views of the world’s highest mountain including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and more.

Gokyo Lake Trek follows the same route of Everest Base Camp Trek till Phortse and branches to left for Gokyo Valley. The beautiful walking adventure in the Gokyo valley of the Everest region offers dramatic views of mountains and glacial lakes. From Gokyo Ri (hilltop of Gokyo valley) there are spectacular views of mountains, glaciers, and Gokyo Lakes.

Gokyo Lake Trekking Route

Taking a peaceful trekking route off the trail to the Everest base camp trek from Namche Bazar leads you towards the amazing Gokyo Valley. The mountain valley consists of beautiful glacial lakes, glaciers, and mountainous surroundings. In addition to enjoying the wonders of lakes and the surroundings, a hike to Gokyo Ri offers you an overwhelming view of the Himalayas.

A short and wonderful trekking adventure in the Himalayas, Gokyo Lake Trek can be your ideal adventure trip to go next. Although this adventure returns back towards Lukla after exploring the Gokyo valley, you can also trek further towards the Everest Base Camp via Cho La pass.

Highlights of Gokyo Lake Trek

  • Gokyo Lakes and the Valley
  • Gokyo Ri and glaciers
  • Dramatic views of the mountains
  • Multiple days trekking through nature and mountainous landscape
  • Beautiful culture and lifestyle experience of the Sherpa people
  • Mystical monasteries and shortens and prayer flags
  • Gushing river and suspension bridges

Best Time for Gokyo Lake Trekking

Gokyo Lake trekking is possible all year round. However, trekking in the spring and autumn seasons is the best and recommended one. The spring season in Everest falls under the months of March, April, and May. At this time the days are hot and visibility is clear. The forests are colorful by the Rhododendron flowers and have less chance of rain.

In the autumn season, the days are warm and the hills are lush green. The clear weather after the long monsoon makes your walking environment easy and wonderful. The autumn season falls under the months of September, October, and November.

Gokyo Trekking Cost

The trekking cost for the Gokyo Lake trekking package depends on your plan and budget. The cost includes the service of Kathmandu to Lukla flight and vice versa. An experienced trekking guide is necessary to lead your trekking and a strong porter to carry your baggage. Your daily budget of lodging and flooding and national park permit fees are the basic expenses.

Based on your service selection the cost of lodges, foods, number of guides, and porters cost will be the trekking cost. So, normally you need about US$ 80 per day budget for Gokyo Lake trekking.

The Standard itinerary for this trip is here. We can customize it according to your interest

The first day of your adventure Gokyo Lake Trek starts with your arrival to Kathmandu. Our company representative will welcome you at the airport on your arrival. He will transfer you to the hotel where you can find an easy time to relax after checking in. We will meet you in the evening at the hotel to talk about the trip in details. Any questions you may have regarding your trip will be discussed so that you are well-prepared for the trip.
We have an early morning flight to Lukla today. So, we drive to the airport for the exciting Himalayan flight to the gateway to the Everest region. A wonderful flight on a small airplane takes us to the beautiful town of Lukla with the views of stunning mountains.
After landing at Lukla, we meet our whole trekking crew and get ready to walk for the day. It is an easy start of the walk of the adventure trek to the Everest Base Camp. We are going to trek to Phakding village on the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Around four hours of trek today introduces us to the trail, surroundings, nature, and the views of mountains in the Everest region. The atmosphere of our overnight site, Phakding, feels amazing on the bank of the gushing river.
The second day of the walk today takes us to the beautiful and famous Sherpa town of Namche Bazar at the elevation of 3,440 meters above sea level. Almost all uphill walk for the day takes us past beautiful natural surroundings of nature and the view of mountains. As we enter the Sagarmatha National Park today, we will also walk over several suspension bridges over the gushing river.
Finally, we reach Namche Bazar after the walk of around six hours. The view of the mountains and wonderful surroundings of Namche helps us relax and settle. We take it easy to acclimatize well at the changing climatic situation and elevation.
We have an extra day stopover at Namche today that will help us acclimatize well before we head further higher. Namche has beautiful places in the surroundings where we can go for day hiking and exploration instead of staying idle at the lodge and bazar. The hiking exploration for the day will also help us get better acclimatized and we become ready to trek to the higher elevation.
Our trekking journey continues towards Gokyo valley from today onwards. It takes a different trail towards Gokyo than the regular Everest base camp trail. We trek to a peaceful place called Dole to stay overnight. The trail is also a peaceful stretch as there are fewer trekkers along the region. Leaving the Everest base camp trail and entering into the solitude of the trail towards Gokyo valley feels like going into the wilderness. Once we reach Dole and check into the teahouse, we take an easy time to relax and absorb more of the mountains.
We will trek to Macchermo today while on our trekking adventure towards the amazing Gokyo valley and lakes. Another day of walk traversing the trail stretch of peaceful surroundings and wonderful views takes us to the destination today. We will have a refreshing afternoon at the beautiful surroundings of Macchermo once we reach there.
Our walk today takes us eventually to the magical valley of Gokyo and the Lakes. The trail that winds up the mountain keeps surprising us with wonderful unfolds of mountains, lakes and glacier views. As we feel awed by what comes along the trail, we finally make it to the bank of the third lake in Gokyo to stay overnight. We will also have time to enjoy the charm of the lake and its surroundings once we reach there.
We have an adventurous and early morning today. Our day starts with a beautiful hiking adventure to an amazing viewpoint of Gokyo Ri. The hike will bring us one of the best views that we will ever see on earth. Early morning wake up and a challenging hike up to the Ri is certainly a worth adventure doing it.
Later, we spend the day of easy exploration around the Gokyo Lakes that will bring us memorable experiences to cherish.
After the amazing exploration day at Gokyo Valley, we return back to Dole today to stay overnight.
We trek back to Namche Bazar to stay overnight.
This is the last day of the trek and we traverse the trail all the way to Lukla from Namche. Once we reach Lukla and check into the lodge, we will take an easy time to explore and wander around the place. It has been an amazing adventure to the Everest base camp and thanks to the whole team who made the adventure safe and an awesome experience. We befriended people, mountains, nature and breathtaking surroundings that have left an incredible impression and experience.
We take a flight back to Kathmandu and enjoy our afternoon and evening at leisure.
On that day, according to your timetable, we Adventure Himalaya Circuit Treks & Tours Company will give you Airport drop.

We are a couple who just came back from Gokyo Lake trek and is happy to share our experience. Everything was arranged, we didn't have to worry about anything. Picked up from the hotel and dropped at the airport. At the airport in Lukla picked up again by Sherpas and taken care of for the whole trekking duration.

It's useful to have a guide as he arranges hotels for you, which might be super important in busy season. They call known hotels on the way, so, once you achieve your destination you are already checked in. Also as locals they can arrange many 'small' things for you and most importantly - they really know to area and all the shortcuts. They know where is a danger which we or other people on the path were underestimating. They see all wild animals in distance, I would never notice them :)

Views are absolutely spectacular. We were lucky to see Everest few times one our way :) our guide was very friendly and helpful. Super kind and professional. We have tracked everything we have planned or maybe even more :)

We went from Lukla to Gokyo Lakes, Gokyo Ri and then back via Rengo La pas down. It was in December and took us 11 days (9 up and 2 down). You have a constant connection and support with the agency. They book flights for you, taxi... It was first time I have used the agency, till now I was arranging all trips by myself. It doesn't cost much more than doing all on your own however the comfort of not thinking about anything was super please and relaxing.

Fully recommend and can't wait to have next trip with you to Chitwan National Park.
