Trekking in Nepal

Annapurna Base Camp Trek in Nepal

Trekking in Nepal is one of the most popular adventure activities that love by travelers. Nepal has been known around the world as an important destination for trekking since 1960 after Jimmy Robert’s first commercial trip to Nepal. Since then, every year thousands of people visit Nepal for trekking in the Himalayan region. Most of the travelers to Nepal travel on foot for a few days, while others travel for a month on valleys and high mountain routes.

The most popular trekking areas in Nepal are Everest and Annapurna region while Langtang, Manaslu and Kanchenjunga areas are other popular trekking destinations. The most challenging trekking route is the Great Himalayan Trails, a huge trail system that covers Nepal from Humla and Darchula in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east.

Diversity of trekking

The diversity of trekking trails like in Nepal cannot be found anywhere else in the world. In fact, in the Terai region the lowest point is 59 m above sea level, while the highest point is Mount Everest, at an altitude of 8,848 m above sea level, these two points are only 200 km apart.

Most of the tourists coming to Nepal come from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Only few tourists come via land from China and India. Every trekker is required to obtain their permits and other documents, from the trekking agency or from the appropriate offices before they proceed for trekking. These documents will be checked on the check points on the route. For those who have little time on their hands also can join the short hiking around Kathmandu valley. These hiking routes offer a village lifestyle, Himalayan views and easy walking opportunity.

Facilities in the Trekking Routes

Trekking in Nepal now is very different from the 60’s. In those days everything need to be organized by the trekker’s team but today most of the trekking routes are well developed with modern facilities of loding and fooding. Well facilities lodges have been established in all major trekking areas where trekkers can find accommodation, food and other trekkers and locals. Most trails are well organized and in most cases are busy enough.

The lodge on the trekking routes is well organized and has facilities for charging batteries, wifi connections and food options of western and continental foods. The length, difficulty and timing of the treks vary greatly and once outside the main trekking areas traffic becomes problematic and often involves at least two trips on domestic scheduled flights. Many treks in Nepal start with a flight to the starting point and take place in many remote areas with no road access. Many days of trekking are required to reach the high mountainous region from the local centers of population and administration.

Trekking Places Environment

Nepal has six separate and diverse vegetation zones with sub-tropical subtropical 100 m – 200 m below 1,000 m, low temperatures 1,700 m – 2,700 m, and upper temperatures 2,400 m – 1,000,000 m below 1,000 m. Sub-alpine, 000,000 m – 000,000 m and alpine, 000,000 m. Meter to snow Snow strip This Himalayan tundra is like a desert. The high altitude is home to the loving snow leopard, Himalayan Thar, musk deer and other rare species.

Although popular treks in Kanchenjunga, Sagarmatha, Manslu, Annapurna are able to provide lodge accommodation, those areas and other areas west of Annapurna often require less camping style trek support.

Trekkers can find the trail at any time of the year. Achieve high levels of rainfall in the southern regions of Nepal. Although some of the routes of the Great Himalayan Trail are located in the rain shadow region, Annapurna and Mansalu are in the dry zone to the left of the Mustang hills to the north, Dolpo to the north of Dhaulagiri and the far west of Nepal to the north. Of Saipal Himal. After the monsoon, the weather tends to be clearer. Winter is good but with short days cold and spring season you can be affected by rain and snow storms. Summer is short and soon after the monsoon. Monsoon treks are mostly in the dry Manang and Mustang areas.

However, it does not rain for 2 hours and it brings wonderful flowers to life. This is also the best time to consider one of the rain-shaded areas, which is usually the view of the more barren Tibetan landscape as opposed to the greenery on the other side.

It is important for tourists to know that tourism is the main source of income for the people of the hilly region, and they are usually hired as trekking porters or guides. Hiring a porter does not mean that you are weak, it means that you value Nepali culture, you are providing an extended Nepali family with income and at the same time you are making friends and trekking with a well-informed local. Local cultures, festivals, and all the other issues that can turn a good trek into a great life time experience.

It is possible to trek alone or without a Nepali guide, but you will not know what to do in a big storm, zero visibility and temperatures, drowning temperatures at 1000 meters? Make sure you have all the permissions, and be environmentally and culturally conscious.
