Here are Ways to get around Nepal

There are various ways to get around Nepal while you are here

Knowing about the ways to get around in Nepal during your travel can greatly help you in planning the trip. It is one of the most important factors to make your tour experience. Whether it is to commute around a city or travel to different places around the country, the means of transportation play a huge role. When you travel around Nepal, you can certainly choose various ways to go from one place to another.

Here are the ways to get around Nepal during your travel to the beautiful country of the Himalayas.

Commuting in Kathmandu

Whether you come for Everest Base Camp Trek or other trekking adventures or any other tour activities, you certainly have to come to Kathmandu. Since this ancient city and capital of the country has the only international airport in the country, you obviously land here to get in.

When you are in Kathmandu, you can take a taxi, the easiest way, to get around. You can also hire a private vehicle instead of a taxi. Taking a public vehicle service can be a little of a hassle since they are overcrowded. In addition, you also do not know which bus to take to go to the place that you want to go.

There are plenty of taxis once you come out on the road. You just need to ask one of them to take you to your destination. Bit of bargaining always works.

Air Transportation for Intercity Travel or to the Mountain

If you are traveling around the major cities in Nepal, you can always find a network of flights. If you are trekking to the Everest, you can fly to Lukla and start the adventure. Likewise, you can fly from Pokhara to Jomsom to go to Upper Mustang Trek.

Short distance flights in small planes can amazingly save you time to travel around the country. If you plan to use flight as a way to get around Nepal during your travel, please make sure you book the flights in advance.

Tourist Buses to Major Tourist Cities

There are comfortable tourist bus services connecting major tourist cities in the country. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Lumbini are inter-connected with tourist bus service. Although the tourist buses are not luxurious, they are much more comfortable than local buses.

Tourist buses cost slightly more than the local buses but they are far better and safer to travel in.

Local Buses

We always recommend tourist buses to local buses where possible. But there are certain areas where there is no option of taking the local bus if you are traveling to those areas. When you are going for a trekking adventure in Langtang and Manaslu, you have to take the local bus if you do not book a private vehicle. These local buses are not much comfortable but that’s the only option to get into the place.

If you are traveling to remote villages in the mountains, the local bus is the only mode of transportation to get around.

Book a Private Vehicle

If you want to skip all the options above, you can book a private vehicle to take you around. If you are traveling in a group, booking a private vehicle is much more cost-effective in addition to being a safer option.

But if you are a solo traveler, getting a private vehicle certainly costs you more. But the comfort and experience are surely worth it.

When you are planning your travel in Nepal, please do not plan your time by looking at the distance. A tourist bus travel to Pokhara takes you around seven hours to cover a mere 200 kilometers which may be just a 2.5 hours’ travel at your home! The road condition in Nepal is not as good as in your country. You will find a lot of bumps along the highways. But, believe us; the overland travel will bring you the best experience of the country.
