How difficult is Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The Luxury Everest base camp trek sounds luxurious but it is in terms of accommodation only. The difficulty level of the trekking will be the same as the regular trekking adventure in the region. As a multi-day and high-altitude trekking adventure, it is a fairly challenging trek that demands good physical fitness.

Although a challenging trekking adventure, it is not an extremely difficult trek to accomplish. People of any age group with a good fitness level can do it. You just need to have strong willpower. However, you will need to have the sound physical fitness to accomplish the adventure successfully.

The difficulty level will go up as you gain elevation as your reach closer to the base camp. Your walking pace will be slower and you will find the oxygen level thinning as you reach the higher altitudes. The increasing elevation and scant oxygen level will make the trek more challenging. But the situation is certainly bearable with minimum effort.

But the good thing is the luxury accommodation with delicious foods to relish after a tiring day of trekking. You will get to enjoy a great sleep at luxury lodges after each day of the trek.

Flying from Kathmandu.

Day 01: Kathmandu – Lukla 2,860m – Phakding 2,610m

We get ready early in the morning for our flight to Lukla. We are going to set foot in the marvelous Everest region. A short and beautiful flight lands us at Lukla airstrip where incredible mountain views welcome us to the charming mountain region.

As soon as we come out of the airport, we get ready to begin the trekking journey. We are trekking to Phakding today on a gentle and easy trail that takes us past chhortens, mani walls, prayer flags, etc. to let us know that the region has a big influence on Buddhism. We reach Phakiding on the bank of Dudh Koshi River to stay overnight.

Day 02: Phakding – Namche Bazar 3,440m

We are going to enter Sagarmatha national park on our trek to Namche Bazar today. As we hit the trail from Phakding, we follow the river and cross in many different places over suspension bridges. Once we check at the national park checkpoint at Monjo, we continue walking towards the destination. Although the trail today gives us a pretty tough challenge of traversing uphill trail, we go on a gentle pace to ease the challenge. Bustling Namche Bazar certainly welcomes us for an overnight stay.

Day 03: Namche Bazar – Tengboche 3,860m

On the third day of the Everest base camp trek 10 days, our destination is Tengboche. The first section of the trek goes uphill and becomes gentler before it descends to a mountain stream. After crossing the stream, it goes steeply uphill towards Tengboche. Tengboche is a small and beautiful settlement which also has great views of mountain peaks. The Buddhist monastery there, famously known as Tengboche Monastery, is a rich example of Buddhist cultural traditions prevalent in the region. We explore the monastery and surroundings and spend overnight here.

Day 04: Tengboche – Dingboche 4,410m

We wake up for a lovely morning and relish our breakfast with the view of the mountains given that it’s a fine morning. We are trekking to Dingboche today so we embark on the adventure walk of the day. The trail goes amidst the high towering mountains and passes Pangboche village. We cross a mountain river along the trail to start the uphill challenge. The trail goes pretty much uphill after Pangboche up to Dingboche. Dingboche is a beautiful settlement with tea houses and views of mountain peaks.

Day 05: Dingboche – Lobuche 4,940m

Our overnight place today is Lobuche and we trek there through a rugged mountain trail filled with glacial moraine, huge boulders, and bare landscape. Captivating views of mountains certainly accompany us along the trail. Our pace gets slower as we trek higher and we can clearly feel the shortage of oxygen level in the air. So, we try to walk at a gentle pace to adjust to the high-altitude climate. We trek past Thukla where we also see a lot of memorial chhortens and eventually reach Lobuche to stay overnight.

Day to reach the Everest Base Camp

Day 07: Gorakshep – Kalapatthar 5,545m – Pheriche 4,371m
